Guide: The Chronological Order of Marvel Movies
Well, because the movies are made by different people and sometimes they overlap and sometimes they don’t. So it can be hard to keep track of who came up with what idea or when it happened. But that’s why we need a timeline! This is how we know where things stand in relation to each other. So here is the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline:
- The Avengers (2008-2012)
- Thor (2011-2013)
- Black Widow (2013-2015)
- Ant-Man (2015-2018)
- Doctor Strange (2016-2018)

But as the MCU grew, so too did its scope. The first two Avengers movies were set in the early days of the MCU, before Tony Stark had even become Iron Man. The third movie, Thor: Ragnarok, took place a few years after that. And then there was Black Panther, which was set a few months after that. So it wasn’t until Ant-Man and the Wasp that we got our first glimpse of the larger world of superheroes that we know today. And it’s been growing ever since.
The Incredible Hulk is a film that has had a significant impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has been praised for its visual effects, story, and acting. However, some problems have arisen since its release. These problems include the lack of cohesion between the films, and the fact that some directors and screenwriters have become involved in other projects while their work on The Incredible Hulk was completed.

Marvel’s mega franchise is a success because it makes sense.
According to Watts, Marvel has an impressively large timeline in the form of a scroll that is longer than a conference table. This incredible artifact of geekdom has never seen the light of day, but it presumably covers the history of the MCU from the dawn of time, plotting every major event that has taken place, on screen or on screen.
The film’s timeline is constantly inconsistency because the clearest example is from Spider-Man: Homecoming, where a title card incorrectly states that the film takes place about 8 years after The Avengers. Fans were quick to point out that this conflicted with Avengers’ supposed setting.

It didn’t happen. It made it even more complicated for fans to work together. Iron Man, for example, was originally said to have taken place in 2008, the year it was released. Then fan theorists found evidence that it had taken place. According to Marvel’s official timeline, released in January, it’s taking place.
The official timeline was revealed one thing- Spider-Man took place just four years after The Avengers, not eight. This is strange because before the timeline was released, Kevin Feige insisted that the eight-year timeline was correct. If even the supervisor isn’t sure what’s going on, how can we ever know for sure?

The events of Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor apparently all take place over approximately seven days, a period known as Fury’s Big Week. This intense week for the director of SHIELD was pushed back a year from the original estimates (although The Incredible Hulk was not posted in the official timeline, previous information from Marvel puts it in this time frame).
Despite all these issues, or perhaps because of that, fans have worked hard to produce a definitive chronological order for the Marvel movies. According to our research, this is the closest thing to the truth of it, at least until the ramifications of Endgame’s time-traveling pranks are revealed in the course of the next films.

After all that, it almost makes sense. That said, the chronological order isn’t necessarily the correct order to watch it. Captain Marvel, for example, is much more satisfying to look at with the context of the entire series to make the revelations more meaningful.
