POSTMAN is a great tool for retrieving response from an API. It doesn’t require a framework, and developers and automation engineers can use it to make sure the service is up and running as well as the build version of an API that is being deployed into the area.
- Open Postman and create a new project.
- Type the following into the “name” field: “api-execution”.
- Click on the “Create” button.
- In the “description” field, type: “A simple way to execute APIs using Postman”.
- Click on the “Create” button again and enter a name for your project, such as “api-execution2”.
- Click on the “build” button to create a new build file and save it to your computer.
- Open your newly created build file and paste in the following code: $postman -v 1 -t POSTMAN_VERSION postman –verbose –log-level=INFO –log-file=/var/log/postman/postman_logs –ignore-errors=true –curl -X POSTMAN_URL https://localhost:8080/v1/api
Steps to use Postman to Execute APIs
Step 2: Type in a request. Step 3: Click on the “Create Request” button. Step 4: Enter your information and click on the “Submit” button.
Step 3: On the “collection” tab, click on the “+” button to add a new item to your collection. A new collection will appear and you will be able to edit its name, description, and many other settings.
In this step, we will select the recently created request and enter the API endpoint where it says ‘Enter request URL’ and select the method (the action type) on the left of that field. The default method is GET but we will use POST in the example below.
- POST
- PUT
- DELETE
- TRACE The following are the server-side requirements for each method: POST: The user must supply a valid username and password. The credentials must be in the form of an Authorization Token. PUT: The user must supply a valid username and password. The credentials must be in the form of a JSON object with the following fields: id, name, secret, type, payload. type is either “token” or “password”. payload is an arbitrary string that will be used to store the data in the response.
To use the Basic Authentication feature on a website, you must provide a username and password.
Step 6: Enter headers in case they are required. ..
Step 7: Enter a POST body in case it is required. ..
Step 8: To send this API request, hit the ‘Send’ button, which is located to the right of the API request field. You can also click on the ‘Save’ button beside it to save that API request to your library.
Final Words
In this article, we will use Postman to test the REST API of a company. This API enables interoperability between software programmes by facilitating API calls. Postman is a popular API testing software that integrates easily into CI/CD pipelines.
