How to Use FaceTime On Android and PC – Guide
With iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, Apple has made it so you can make a FaceTime call via a web browser on any device. However, that doesn’t mean you have a full FaceTime experience on Android or Windows. ..
Apple’s cross-compatibility effort with Android is a welcome one, but it’s unclear if it’s fully featured since FaceTime will be available on non-Apple devices. ..
How to FaceTime on Android
FaceTime now has a web interface that you can access on Android, Windows, Chrome OS, and anywhere else you can run a web browser. All you need to get into a FaceTime call is a up-updated version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (for now you can’t FaceTime through Firefox or any other browser).
Apple has not created a real FaceTime web app, however, you can’t initiate a call from a web browser – you can only sign in to one. It is also not possible to make Android to Android calls through FaceTime or Windows to Windows calls. You need at least one Apple device in the mix.
FaceTime is a great phone call app that is very flexible and simple to use. You don’t need an Apple ID to join a FaceTime call from a web browser, or even an email address – just enter a name to identify yourself and you are up and running. For individual or group calling purposes, you get some basic FaceTime controls within your browser to change the layout, exit the call, and so on.
How to Share FaceTime calls with anyone
After installing iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 (and macOS Monterey when it launches), open up Facetime. You will see a new Create link button: This basically creates a room for a FaceTime call. Anyone who receives this link (by email, text message, etc.) can join the call. Sending the link will not initiate a call right away; on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac, you’ll still need to tap or click the link and select Join to initiate the call.
If you are using an iPhone or an iPad to access the FaceTime link, you will first need to enter a name and then click Join. You will need to wait for the person who created the call link to join the call and let you join as well. On the call, you will see the usual options for transforming your camera and microphone on or off, and you can also share the link to the call, as well as switch to the new Grid Layout that FaceTime now offers. ..
The FaceTime call works just like any other standard call when you’re inside it. You can exit and return to calls if needed. However, the link does not expire when the call ends, so you can use it again in the future. Anyone who receives the link can join the call, so it is advisable not to share it publicly.
FaceTime News Features
Apple’s FaceTime support for non-Apple devices is basic, with no call history or ability to initiate calls. You only get a browser tab and a nickname that you can specify yourself. Apple devices still need to be involved somewhere.
Apple’s decision to put FaceTime on other platforms is something that they have always wanted to do, but the video calling boom that was triggered by the covid-19 locks probably forced their hand. When apps like Zoom and Google Meet work on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and other platforms, no one will turn to FaceTime for their next meeting or get-together – unless everyone is using an Apple device. It seems increasingly likely that we will eventually have FaceTime for Android rather than iMessage for Android because Apple knows its encrypted messaging platform keeps people locked up when they own an iPhone.
Apple has not released a new FaceTime feature called SharePlay, which would let you watch videos, listen to music, and share a screen with other FaceTime users in one call. We are assuming that this will not be available to those who are just logging into a web browser. However, we are expecting that SharePlay will be tested out and updated later this fall.
