Fix ‘No Sound issue in Bluetooth Headphones’ for Mac – Guide

I’ve been using AirPods and Bluetooth headsets for years, but I recently switched to using my Mac to listen to music and calls. When I switch back to music, the Bluetooth audio on my Mac sounds terrible. I don’t know why this is, but it seems like there’s a bug in the software. I can fix this issue by changing the audio settings on my Mac.

Your Mac has two ways to connect to your AirPods or other Bluetooth headsets. There’s AAC for high quality audio – this is the identical quality Apple uses for Apple Music. And there are low quality compounds called SCO or SBC. The problem is when your Mac is being used to listen to music, it switches the Bluetooth microphones to a lower quality connection. It’s hard to tell if this is intentional or a mistake, but it’s a problem that’s been around for a long time. How to fix it:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest version of the macOS software and Bluetooth drivers installed.
  2. Try connecting your AirPods or other Bluetooth headsets in another room and see if the problem goes away. If not, you may need to update your Mac’s firmware or replace its Bluetooth microphone unit.
